Secretary!

Many thanks to all of the midwives who voted in the recent ACNM election! As of the June American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Annual Meeting, I will begin a three year term as Secretary of the Board of Directors. I am honored to serve my profession in this way, and greatly look forward to supporting and elevating the work of diversity, engaging students and new midwives, and advertising the complex work of midwives in all their forms. One component of all of this that feels incredibly full circle of me, is the election of Lisa Kane Low to President. Lisa was my undergraduate women's studies professor at the University of Michigan, and thanks to her and Joanne Bailey, I first learned about midwifery: about the power of midwives, the breadth and possibilities of midwifery work, and from whom I have received constant support and love and ideas for where this path might take me, and all of us.Many, many thanks to Amy Romano for her role in my midwifery path, who herself is an incredible example to the midwifery community about what our profession can do and will do, and who sees something in me that then allows me to see it within myself.Sometimes, this midwife life of mine is so powerful, and beautiful, and fortunate, that I can hardly believe it. The nomination, and now election, has me incredibly emotional about my work and reignited my midwife passion, and for that I am deeply grateful. So, thank you to everyone for your support. And please reach out with thoughts and ideas about how midwifery is succeeding and where we need to reconsider our goals and next steps - it is the voices of individuals that give the voice of the community.
