ACNM Days #3 and #4: Recap

Is it too late to finish my recap of ACNM? I don't think so! Especially since I'm still watching videos from the sessions I missed and wanted to attend. And there was too much greatness to forget!I have begun to think of the annual meeting as a series of days leading up to a new start, similar to the time right before New Year's Eve. A time when people you love are all considering the past year and contemplating the next. A time of rapid growth and shared knowledge, with which we will go separate ways and be better, to be more evidence-based, to work with a renewed spirit of midwifery despite our particular struggles. I am glad to have another opportunity to refresh my memory of this meeting to finish the recap posts, if only as a reminder of my restart in midwifery on June 3rd, a reminder of my midwifery  goals. In my midwifery new year I hope to continue to strive and to love and to, ultimately, be a midwife with all of the emotion and knowledge and strength I can. What were your favorite moments from ACNM? Who did you meet, what did you learn, and how are you incorporating these new ideas into your practice?Recap of Days #3 and #4:Saturday sessions: midwife global health and disaster caucus (find out how to be involved if you haven't already!), skin-to-skin, new practice recommendations for contraceptive use, and disrespect and abuse of women in childbirth.Geraldine Simkins! Watched one of my mentors win a fantastic award!

Sunday sessions: Dr. David Grimes' lecture on Misogyny and Women's Health, closing business meeting (beautiful arguments!), accidentally finding some amazing Farm midwives, the Queen Bee Ina May's lecture, and then off to the airport to return home. What a whirlwind!IMG_2332IMG_2339IMG_2369IMG_2350
